About Lisa Jellison LCSW
My Background and Education
I grew up in Southern California spending most weekends at the beach. For me, the beach and being by water has been a huge part of my life because it is so relaxing. The sound of the waves crashing on the shore, the sand between my toes, and having a great time with friends and family are the best parts. The beach is where people go to get away. It is the inspiration for my office and this website. I wanted to create a space where people want to go. To find inner peace, calm and a sense of well-being. A place that feels like home!
I moved to Chico in 1990 for a new adventure and to attend college. I obtained my Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from CSU-Chico in 1994 and was awarded the Aileen Collier Glenn Scholarship award. I subsequently completed my Master’s degree in Social Work from CSU-Sacramento in 1996 graduating Magna Cum Laude. I have been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of California since 1999 (LCS #19240).
After graduating with my Bachelor’s degree, I worked for 12 years in the medical field as a social worker and Manager of Clinical Resource Services for Enloe Medical Center, Feather River Hospital and Butte Home Health and Hospice. Because of my medical background, I have extensive experience working in high crisis situations, medical issues, trauma, grief and loss, cancer, behavioral health, rehabilitation, and home health and hospice services. In the hospital setting I worked with patients on a variety of complex issues from birth until the end of life.
When I became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I started my private practice in the evenings while continuing to be a Manager at Enloe. I have over 22 years of experience in the private practice setting. In this capacity I have worked with children, preteens, adolescents, adults, couples, and older adults. I also have experience working as a Clinical Director and Director of Marketing for a local counseling center.
Several years ago, I became certified in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), and enjoy seeing the life changing benefits this type of therapy can provide. Since the EMDR training I have become fascinated with Neuroscience and the brain. I love being able to teach clients about the different parts of their brain and it’s impact on behavior and cognitive functions.
Over the years I have also provided supervision to Bachelor’s, Master’s and Associate level interns working towards a degree or licensure. It has been a pleasure to mentor up and coming therapist’s in my community. I have additionally enjoyed providing consultation and training to local businesses on a variety of topics including Critical Incident Stress Debriefings, customer service, and leadership skills development.
